Hello friends! Hannah here with a fun new pattern that is perfect for a summer baby!

This blanket is made with the new Red Heart Cotton Breeze yarn from Yarnspirations! It’s an acrylic cotton blend, that is super soft and lightweight, perfect for summer garments and blankets.

This stitch for this blanket is a simple modified version of the even moss stitch. The stitch is essentially the same – each row is alternating slip stitch and half double crochet – but every two rows I started the row with a half double crochet instead of a slip stitch so that the lines on the blanket would be offset instead of stacked on top of each other. I love the diagonal/wavy look it creates!

Here’s a video tutorial if you’d like to see how to work the stitch before you get started!

Pattern
Chain 114 (or any even number).
Row 1: Starting in the 2nd chain from the hook, work 1 SL ST. *Work 1 HDC in the next stitch and 1 SL ST in the next stitch. Repeat from * across the row. CH 1 and turn. (113 stitches made, last stitch should be SL ST.)
Row 2: Work 1 SL ST into the first stitch. *Work 1 HDC in the next stitch and 1 SL ST in the next stitch. Repeat from * across the row. CH 1 and turn.
Row 3: Work 1 HDC into the first stitch. *Work 1 SL ST in the next stitch and 1 HDC in the next stitch. Repeat from * across the row. CH 1 and turn. (Last stitch should be HDC.)
Row 4: Work 1 HDC into the first stitch. *Work 1 SL ST in the next stitch and 1 HDC in the next stitch. Repeat from * across the row. CH 1 and turn.
Row 5: Work 1 SL ST into the first stitch. *Work 1 HDC in the next stitch and 1 SL ST in the next stitch. Repeat from * across the row. CH 1 and turn.
Row 6: Work 1 SL ST into the first stitch. *Work 1 HDC in the next stitch and 1 SL ST in the next stitch. Repeat from * across the row. CH 1 and turn.
Repeat rows 3 – 6 for the remainder of the blanket, until blanket reaches appx. 32 inches or your desired length.

Border
Round 1: At end of final row, CH 1 and begin working down side of blanket. Work 1 round of SC around the blanket, work 1 SC per row on each side and 1 SC per stitch on each end. Work 3 SC in each corner.
At starting corner, slip stitch into starting stitch and CH 7.
Side 1: Starting in the 2nd chain from the hook, work HDSS in each of the 6 chains back toward the edge of the blanket. *Slip stitch into the next unworked stitch, and slip stitch again in the next stitch. Turn and work HDSS in each of the 6 HDSS you just made. CH 1 and turn. Work back down and work 6 HDSS. (On the 6th stitch feel free to insert your hook under all three loops of the stitch – you don’t need to dig to find the top two loops.) Repeat from across * the side of the blanket.
Side 2: When you reach the first corner, stop when you get to the top of the border after working stitches up from the corner. (If you need to only work 1 slip stitch instead of 2 in order to stay at the corner, that’s fine.) At the top of the border CH 7. Begin working across the side of the blanket in the same manner as side 1.
Work the rest of the blanket in the same manner as sides 1 and 2. When you finish the border at the starting corner, tie off at the top of the border and weave in ends.
