Hello friends! If you’re looking for a nice, relaxing project to keep your hands busy during this holiday season, this Christmas V-Stitch Throw is for you!

I’ve been wanting a to make a new throw for my couch out of Bernat Maker for a while, so I finally started this big throw a few months ago and have been slowly chipping away at it! Sometimes it’s nice to have a simpler, longer project that I can just pick up and easily jump back into!

This blanket is made with a version of the half double crochet (HDC) V-stitch, which is two HDCs worked into every other stitch across the row, and then worked in between each other in the next row so that they form vertical v-shaped lines.

In addition to the regular HDC v-stitch, I also added some different sizes of HDC clusters throughout the blanket to make a subtle windowpane texture. I also went up several hook sizes than the recommended size because I wanted this blanket to have a more loose look with a really nice drape.

The v-stitch was one of our Grandma Jannet’s favorite stitches, and it was a nice comfort to be working on this blanket for the past few months as we approach the holidays and the one year mark of her passing. I wanted something that I could pull out every year for Christmas that would help us feel close to her and I love how this throw turned out.

You can find lots of beautiful shades of Bernat Maker on Yarnspirations.com or from the Bernat Store on Amazon. (As an Amazon affiliate we may earn from qualifying purchases.)

Row 11: Repeat row 3.
Repeat rows 2 through 11 nine more times, then repeat rows 2 through 9 to finish the blanket.
Border
At the end of the last row, you can either turn and starting working the border, or tie off and weave in ends and pull up a loop in the corner later to begin the border. You can also work one round of SC or HDC around the blanket before beginning the ribbed border if you’d like.
After the last stitch, CH 5. Starting in the 2nd chain from the hook, work a SC in each of the 4 chains back toward the edge of the blanket. Slip stitch into the next space, and in the next space (try to work in the spaces that line up with the end of each v-stitch row). Turn and work in the back loops of each of the 4 SC you just made. CH 1 and turn. Work back down and SC in the back loops only. (Be careful not to miss the 4th stitch, it sometimes pulls tight and is hard to see.) Continue repeating around the blanket.
When you reach the corners, *only slip stitch once into the corner, before turning and working back loop SC back up to the top of the border. Return and slip stitch into the corner space. Repeat from * two more times so that your border is neatly fanned around the corner. After finishing the corner, continue working around the blanket as before.
When you reach the corner you started with, work the corner as you did previous corners, then tie off when you are at the top of the border, leaving yourself a long tail. Then use the tail to sew the sides of the corners together with a tapestry needle. Tie off and weave in ends. Then enjoy your cozy throw!
