There is a fun new yarn in town! It is Bernat All-In-One Blanket Yarn, a revolutionary new way of making granny squares and having the colors magically change for you. Each round is the right amount of yarn for each color.
I made this baby blanket in half the time it would have taken me to cut and change yarn colors each round. It was so fun to sit back and watch the color change. I was unsure about this color, but I absolutely love how it turned out! Yarnspirations.com has even more great color combos.
If you are a beginner and have been wanting to learn how to make a granny square, this yarn would be great for you. It can teach you how to keep your tension consistent, a skill needed for projects to turn out beautifully. It will also teach you the basics of a granny square, including how to increase each round and join each round.
I like the pattern Yarnspirations uses for this square. It is on the inside of the label or on their website. I also made a Step-by-Step tutorial on YouTube.
Currently, the yarn is exclusively available on Yarnspirations.com. If you have experience using Bernat Blanket yarn, this is the same yarn. You will need a 8 mm hook and a tapestry needle with a large eye. Blanket yarn is a fluffy chenille-type yarn that is super cozy for blankets. If you visit their website, they also have tutorials showing you how to join the squares besides the way I show in my tutorial.
Each ball makes 4 10×10-inch squares. I chose to make the baby blanket size, using 3 balls to make 12 squares. My blanket is about 30 x 40 inches. To make it a bit wider, I am going to add a thicker border with regular blanket yarn in one of the matching colors and possibly turn it into a lap blanket.
I’d like to thank Yarnspirations for sending me this yarn to try out! We have been so happy to be Stitch Ambassadors for them for several years now, and we love it when they create new products for us to try.
The idea of continuous granny yarn started with Red Heart Super Saver, the first yarn introduced with this new idea. I had fun making Annie a cardigan with it. However, because it was the first yarn, I think there was a lot of feedback about ending the yarn right after the square was made and having none left to join the squares.
In the next version, they made a Red Heart Super Saver Flower Power square which solved that problem by adding extra yarn onto the last round so there is plenty to join the squares. This new Blanket yarn also has plenty of yarn on the last round to join the squares as well. Blanket yarn also seemed to be so much easier to make each round work out perfectly.
