Crochet Scattered Dots Baby Sweater Made With Cotton Breeze

Hi all! I have been giving the new Red Heart Cotton Breeze a trial run, and the results are in! 10 out of 10, so nice and soft to work with. It’s 60% acrylic and 40% cotton, which makes it so soft and perfect for baby sweaters.

Also, my initial challenge was to see if one skein could make just a small baby sweater, and what is pictured above is how much I have left in the skein. Red Heart Cotton Breeze is giving a generous amount of yardage in just one skein.

I ordered more so I can make a blanket. I absolutely love the texture. I received many questions about how it compares to Bernat Softee Cotton, which, as most of you know, is my first love for baby blankets. Since Cotton Breeze has more acrylic than Softee Cotton, it is fuzzier, but not by much, and more drapey, but not by much.

The pattern I used is one I designed years ago, long before I became a grandma. It is called the Scattered Dots Baby Sweater. It is so quick to make and makes the best last-minute baby shower gift. You could probably make this small version in a day if you had an afternoon and into the evening free.

The only adjustment I made to the pattern using Red Heart Cotton Breeze was to stop after I had completed six dot rows. It was plenty long, so I stopped. So that also shortened the sleeves as well. I used a much smaller-weight yarn in the original.

There are really beautiful shades available. I went ahead and ordered more in the pale blue and the cream. I want to make so many more items with this yarn! It will be perfect for fun fringe beanies this winter.

This yarn, and all cotton yarn, is on sale for 30% off at Yarnspirations.com. That makes the Cotton Breeze $7 a skein. For the amount of yarn in the ball, that is a great price. (I also really love the cardigan pictured in the marketing photo above and am so tempted to try to make it for myself.)

If you love working with cotton, don’t miss this sale. They also have Lily Sugar’n Cream, Bernat Softee Cotton, Caron All Day Cotton and Bernat Handicrafter Cotton all on sale for 30% off.

Another new cotton that entered the chat earlier this year is Red Heart Better Half. I ordered red, white, and blue so I can get started on making my granddaughters’ tops or sundresses for the Fourth of July. (They offer classic red white and blue colors.)

Anyway, I just wanted to let you know how summer crochet is going! I hope you have lots of fun projects planned yourself.

Happy Crocheting!

XO, Tiffany
