Hello crochet friends! Welcome to Daisy Farm Crafts and we are so glad you found us here with one of our original crochet chevron designs that we called Crochet Chevron in Mint, Dove and White. 

In this post you will learn how to make this blanket using the back loop single crochet stitch. 

It is that simple single crochet stitch, worked into the back loops, (the little v’s that make a stitch, the loop that is the furthest away from you) that gives this blanket dimension and beauty. 

A crochet chevron blanket pattern consists of peaks and valleys.

In this pattern, you work three SC into one stitch to form a peak and skip over 2 stitches to form a valley.

You will be working 13 SC up and down each side of the peak.

Each peak is a series of 29 stitches. 13 on each side of the peak (13 + 13 = 26) and three extra stitches at the top (26 + 3 = 29.)

The main question I received for this crochet chevron blanket, and the part that can be confusing, is the turning when you get to the end of a row.

There are two different ways to do this. I prefer to SC2TOG. Other patterns have you skip the second to last SC and just SC in the last stitch.

It is your preference. Either way works because we need to decrease on the ends.

In my head, I consider the ends the “14th” stitch and is equal to the skipped chains of the valleys.

Here is a video clip to help you if you are more of a visual learner. I am not using the same yarn, but the counting pattern is still the same. 

I encourage you to follow this video in making a swatch until the pattern has become very clear for you.

Materials

I Love This Cotton (100% cotton, 3.5 oz/180 yds)

5 skeins Dove, 5 skeins Mint, 5 skeins White

Size H/5.00mm hook or size I/5.5mm hook depending on personal tension

Size

Finished size 34 in x 34 in

Gauge 4 in = 13 st and 14 rows of SC

Stitches

Single Crochet (SC): Insert your hook, yarn over (YO) and pull up a loop, YO and pull through two loops on hook.

Single Crochet 2 Together (SC2TOG): Insert your hook, YO and pull up a loop, insert your hook into the next stitch, YO and pull up a loop, YO and pull through all loops on your hook.

For this blanket, I am working all the SC into the back loop only (this forms the cornrows).

Pattern

Chain 177. (Pattern repeat is 29 + 3 if you’d like to make it larger. Just multiply the number of peaks you want by 29 then add 3.)

Row 1: In the second chain from the hook and the next chain, SC2TOG. *SC in the next 13 chains, work 3 SC into the next chain, SC in the next 13 chains, skip 2 chains. repeat from *. After you have worked the last 13 chains, you should have two extra. SC2TOG these last two stitches. Chain 1 and turn.

Row 2: (work in back loop only) SC2TOG the first 2 SC, *1 SC in each of the next 13 SC, work 3 SC into the next stitch (this should be the middle stitch of the 3 SC you did in the previous row), work 13 SC, skip two stitches at the bottom for the valley, and repeat from *. After you have worked the last 13 chains, you should have two extra. SC2TOG these last two stitches. Chain 1 and turn.

Repeat row 2 for the remainder of the blanket. 

Tip: Always remember to SC2TOG when you end a row, and start a row. Always skip two stitches for a valley, always work 13 up each side. Always work 3 SC into one stitch for the peak. Always chain 1 and turn.

Notes

Change colors every 14 rows placing 14 rows of White in between each color.
