Baby Jack Easter Vest

Hello from baby Jack wearing the Easter vest I made for him! He is growing so fast, (but needed a little help in this photo from us to be able to sit and model!)

I just love that he is a happy and content little baby. He has a very calm personality.

Let’s chat about how I decided to make his sweater.

This sweater is made from side to side, working vertically, sort of like you would a hat.

Here’s a photo of how the sweater looks before I essentially folded it in half and sewed the sides and shoulders together.

I made the ribbing part at the bottom of the sweater simply by switching the stitch I was using. I’m pretty happy at how it all came together for him. I made this as a 3 to 6 month size.

The easiest way to increase this to a 9 to 12 month size is to use a hook one or 2 sizes larger than I did. And that is based on other sweaters I’ve made with Caron Simply Soft. But if you want to try and estimate and check your size after you make the first few rows, I used this chart for the sizes:

Baby Size Chart

Stitches (US TERMS)

Half Double Crochet (HDC): Yarn over, insert hook into designated space, yarn over and pull back through, yarn over and pull through all three loops on hook.

*Half Double Crochet in the bottom front loop or Camel Stitch (cHDC):  Work the HDC into the bottom front loop of the HDC in the row below.

*Half Double Crochet Slip Stitch (HDCSS) or Yarn Over Slip Stitch: Yarn over, insert your hook under back loop of HDC in the row below, yarn over and pull through and continue pulling through all loops on the hook.

Slip Stitch (SLST): Insert your hook, yarn over and pull back through and through loop on hook.

*I cannot find official abbreviations for these styles of stitches. These are the symbols I am choosing to use for ease of reading the pattern.
