Crochet Summer Tide Dishcloths

Hi friends, I had a few extra skeins of Bernat Cotton Terry in this beautiful blue color in my stash so I thought I would work up a few quick dishcloths! Not only are they a great project for summer, I love having crochet dishcloths on hand  in case I need to quickly throw together a simple gift basket!

Bernat Cotton Terry is a newer yarn from Yarnspirations that is very soft, but also has a nice scrubby texture that is great for dishcloths. It also comes in several beautiful colors! Check out their website if you’d like to see all the options!

These three dishcloths are all made using the same two stitches – single crochet and treble crochet, and they each have a back loop half double slip stitch ribbed border. Here’s a video tutorial that includes instructions for each dishcloth if you’d like to watch before you get started!

Border

To add a border to each dishcloth, stop after you’ve finished the last row and CH 5.

Starting in the 2nd chain from the hook, work 1 HDSS in each of the 4 chains back toward the edge of the dishcloth. *Slip stitch into the next space, and in the next space. Turn and work 1 HDSS in the back loops of each of the 4 HDSS you just made. CH 1 and turn. Work back down the HDSS in the back loops only. Repeat from across * each side.

When you reach a corner space, only slip stitch once, before turning and *working HDSS back up to the top of the border. Return and slip stitch once into the corner space. Repeat from * 2 or 3 more times until your stitches are neatly fanned around the corner, then resume slip stitching into each of the next two stitches and working across the side.

When you reach the starting corner, work the corner the same way as previous corners. Stop when you get to the top of the border and tie off, then use a tapestry needle to sew corners together. Then tie off, weave in any additional ends and enjoy your dishcloth!
