Baby Jack’s Easter Vest

baby boy in crochet sweater

Hello from baby Jack wearing the Easter vest I made for him! He is growing so fast, (but needed a little help in this photo from us to be able to sit and model!)

I just love that he is a happy and content little baby. He has a very calm personality.

Let’s chat about how I decided to make his sweater. This sweater is made from side to side, working vertically, sort of like you would a hat. Here’s a photo of how the sweater looks before I essentially folded it in half and sewed the sides and shoulders together.

I made the ribbing part at the bottom of the sweater simply by switching the stitch I was using. I’m pretty happy at how it all came together for him. I made this as a 3 to 6 month size.

The easiest way to increase this to a 9 to 12 month size is to use a hook one or 2 sizes larger than I did. And that is based on other sweaters I’ve made with Caron Simply Soft. But if you want to try and estimate and check your size after you make the first few rows, I used this chart for the sizes:

Baby Size Chart

Materials

Caron Simply Soft (100% acrylic, 170 g/6 oz, 288 m/315 yds)

1 skein Dark Country Blue

Size H/5 mm size hook (for a larger size use a size I or J hook, you’ll want to check your gauge on a sample swatch of the single crochet stitch.)

Scissors, tapestry needle

Size

Makes 1 size 3 – 6 month sweater

Gauge 4 in = 13 st and 14 rows of SC
