You will find many variations on this simple ripple stitch, but I like this simple ripple stitch because it eliminates holes or gaps. I wanted a very smooth look. 

Pattern

Chain a multiple of 12 and then add 3.

Row 1: DC in 4th chain from hook, first three chains counts as a DC. *1dc in each of the next 3 CH, DC2TOG twice, 1 DC in each of the next 3 CH , 2 DC in next CH twice, repeat from * across to the last CH , 2 DC into that last CH .

Row 2: CH  3, DC in that next stitch, (if you count down from the hook it will be the 4th CH ) *1 DC in each of the next 3 stitches, 2DCTOG twice, 1 DC in each of the next 3 stitches, 2 DC in the next stitch twice, repeat from * across to the last chain, 2 DC into the top of the CH 3 turning chain from the previous row.

Special Stitch: DC2TOG:

Yarn over, insert your hook, pull up a loop, yo pull through two loops and STOP. Yarn over, insert your hook into the next space and pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through two loops, yarn over and pull through all the rest of your loops.

Hopefully this is simple and you’ll get into a great rhythm. Can I make a suggestion if you’ve never done this stitch before? Just do a practice chain of 36 + 3. Work the pattern back and forth before you tackle a big blanket. You’ll be able to see if the yarn works great with the hook you are using and figure out any mistakes.
