Thank you so much for stopping by for the pattern to this easy Crochet Ribbed Ombre Scarf! Wow, doesn’t this stitch look so amazing in the Caron Colorama Halo Perfect Phasing yarn? 

We think this scarf captures the beauty of the stitch and the color shading of the yarn. 

Besides being so soft and cozy, Caron Halo is so easy to work with. If you do happen to make any mistakes, they easily pull out so you can begin again. Some fuzzy yarns are not so forgiving in that area, but we were glad that the extra fuzzy fibers did not tangle and make it hard to undo the yarn. 

With a ribbed stitch, it should be fairly easy to work around the double crochet posts (the vertical bar) and not worry about working into the tops of stitches. That made this scarf work up fairly quickly. We had it finished in a few hours.

This yarn is not scratchy at all, so it makes it very nice to wear around your neck. The ribbing gives the yarn some fun bounce and stretch too. 

You will be working in long rows to get the shading to go from dark to light. You’ll want to pull from the center of the cake to get started, and then the color fades to white when you’re almost finished. 

You will be able to make a nice 6-inch by 80-inch long scarf in one skein by using a larger hook. We are recommending going up two sizes to an 8 mm size hook. The hook size suggested on the packaging is 6 mm. We wanted the scarf to have more drape and less weight since we were using the ribbed stitches. 

We have a short video tutorial demonstrating the ribbed stitch that you can watch if you’ve never worked a double crochet around the posts. We hope you’ll make a practice swatch so you’ll understand how to work the last stitch of the row around the turning chains. You want to be able to have the ends turn out straight since there is no border.

Caron Colorama Halo Perfect Phasing (227 g/8 oz, 440 meters / 481 yards,71% Acrylic,18% Nylon,11% Polyester)

1 cake any color, color shown is Bluestone Frost

Size L-8mm hook, scissors, tape measure, tapestry needle

Gauge: 2 inches = 4 rows and 7 sts, taken from scarf

Stitches

Double Crochet (DC): YO, insert your hook, YO and pull up a loop, YO and pull through two loops, YO and pull through remaining two loops

Pattern

Chain 280 or any even number to 80 inches

ROW 1: Starting in the 4th chain from the hook, work 1 DC. 1 DC into each chain. CH 2 and turn.

ROW 2: Starting with the 2nd post, *work 1 DC around the post by YO and inserting hook from front to back and back to front then complete the DC. (The post pops forward: Front Post DC.) Work 1 DC around next post by YO, inserting hook from back to front and front to back then complete the DC. (Post pops to the back: Back Post DC.) Repeat from * across the row, ending with the last DC worked around the turning chain. CH 2 and turn.

ROW 3: Starting with the 2nd post, *work 1 Front Post DC around the post, then 1 Back Post DC around the next post. Repeat from * to the end of the row, ending with the last DC worked under the turning chain. CH 2 and turn.

ROW 4 until 6 inches wide:  Repeat row 3. 

Tip: you always work around the posts in the same direction as the previous row. 

Tie off and weave in the ends.
