Crochet Even Moss Mock Cable Throw Made With Bernat Forever Fleece

crochet blanket on the couch with pillow

This crochet Even Moss Mock Cable Throw made the perfect wedding gift for my nephew and his new wife! We took some of the crew (Hannah, Nico, Tanner, Annie.) and attended the wedding back in May in Philidelphia.

And I have to share some of these incredible photos by their photographer Emily Gibby.

This is Addison, my nephew who grew up in Chicago, and his new wife Allison, who grew up in Philidelphia.

They had a morning wedding and an evening reception so they could have time in the middle of the day to take photos at some of the iconic sites of Philly.

As most of us were out-of-town guests, we all jumped on a Big Bus Hop On Hop Off tour. And as luck would have it, as they were getting photographed on the famous Rocky steps, we were driving by in the bus!

That’s about 10 of us way in the distance on the top deck of the bus yelling out to them! We could not believe how lucky the timing was. Here is a picture from our perspective.

And here are a few more from their photographer.

They are such a beautiful couple and the wedding was so much fun!

I sent the blanket over to them this week and have been waiting for them to open it before I shared the pattern and they sent me this photo yesterday:

So glad they received it and hope it will keep them warm on those chilly Chicago winters!

So now let’s get to the pattern details. I made this with the incredibly soft Bernat Forever Fleece.

It has a modern matte finish look and is super fast to work up. I made this 60 x 40 throw in about a week’s time working about 2 hours every day.

Also, this is very beginner friendly! I felt like it achieved the look of cables with just half double crochet and slip stitch (even moss stitch).

I finished the blanket with a round of single crochet, to keep it easy, but I also think it would look so good with a round of fun fringe on each end.

Materials

8 skeins Bernat Forever Fleece any color I used White Noise (tap name of yarn to purchase on Yarnspirations.com)

Size 10mm N/M hook, scissors, large eye tapestry needle.

Stitches

Single Crochet (SC): Insert your hook, YO and pull up a loop, YO and pull through two loops on hook.

Half Double Crochet (HDC): YO, insert your hook, YO and pull up a loop, YO and pull through all three loops on hook.

Slip Stitch (SL ST):Insert your hook, YO, pull up a loop and pull directly through loop on hook.

Pattern

Chain 130 (or any even number to the length you desire.)

Row 1: Begin in the second chain from the hook with SC. SC into each chain across the row. CH 1 and turn. (129)

Row 2-4: SC into each SC across the row. CH 1 and turn after each row.

Row 5-6: SL ST into the first st. *HDC into the next st. SL ST into the next st. Repeat from * across the row. (your last stitch should be a SL ST.) CH 1 and turn. (This stitch sequence is known as Even Moss.)

(tip: on the next row of Even Moss stitch, SL ST are always worked into SL ST and HDC into HDC.)

For the remainder of the blanket work 4 rows of single crochet and 2 rows of even moss stitch until you have 40 inches of width or the width you desire. End with 4 rows of SC.

Border

After the last row of SC is complete, CH 1 and turn. Work SC into each SC and 3 SC into each corner. Work 2 SC at the end of every other row on the sides of the throw. Join with a SL ST to the starting SC at the end of the round. Cut and weave in all the ends.

More variations on this pattern will be coming soon! Cyndi my sister, aka Sugar Joye, is working with this stitch and creating a beautiful variation of this throw too. I can’t wait for you to see it! But for a glimpse, see her crochet update here:

Thanks so much for stopping by! I hope your throw turns out so beautiful!
