Happy Holidays! I’m just putting together some last-minute neighbor gifts with Red Heart Scrubby Sparkle and I thought I’d share the idea and the beginner friendly pattern.
Surprisingly, this yarn is soft and easy to crochet with. It did not scratch my hands at all. When I saw it at my local craft store, that was my first thing I worried about, but I had no problems.
I decided to use two strands together to make these little scrubbies. It made them a little thicker and more like a pot scrubber.
These are really quick, I made three in under an hour. They also make good practice for learning how to decrease.
I made a little video tutorial if you need it:
Red Heart Scrubby Sparkle (100% polyester, 85 g/3 oz, 159 meters/174 yards) Tap name of yarn for more information and to buy on Yarnspirations.com
1 skein Marshmallow, 1 Skein Avocado or Watermelon
Size H 5.0 mm hook, tapestry needle, scissors
Half Double Crochet (HDC): YO, insert your hook, YO and pull up a loop, YO and pull through all three loops on hook.
6 inches tall, 4 inches wide at the base
gauge: 4 inches = 15 HDC and 10 rows
Working with one strand of Marshmallow and one strand Avocado together,
Row 1: Begin in the second chain from the hook. HDC into each of the next 15 chains. CH 1 and turn.(15)
Row 2: Skip the first st, work HDC into each of the next 14 sts. CH 1 and turn. (14)
Row 3: Skip the first st, work HDC into each of the next 13 sts. CH 1 and turn. (13)
Row 4: Skip the first st, work HDC into each of the next 12 sts. CH 1 and turn. (12)
Continue pattern by skipping the first st of each row, always CH 1 and turn.
Tie off when you have worked 2 HDC as the last row.
Weave in the ends.
