Crochet Cozy Ruffles Lap Throw

I’ve been wanting to use the new Bernat Future Hope yarn for a nice throw for my grandkids when they visit, since it’s so cozy! They love snuggling in a soft blanket when we curl up and watch their shows together.

I sampled this yarn first with our Twist Headband pattern, which turned out so amazing, I knew it would probably make a great blanket.

For this project however, I wanted it to be extra thick and cozy so I did work with two strands at a time. I pulled from the center of two different skeins at a time. It can be challenging for a beginner to do that, so feel free to switch to the hook size recommended on the package if you just want to use this as a single-strand project.

However, if you do use two strands, I recommend putting the yarn in a basket or container as you use it. You do not want it to tangle. I use a diaper carrier tote for all the yarn. I will share *the link to the ones I use. I bought the extra-large with pockets, and it is my favorite project tote I have found. The fabric is nylon so the yarn does not stick to it, the sections hold the large skeins of yarn and makes it so easy to keep the yarn tidy, and, it has pockets all around the outside for hooks, tape measures, etc.

Next time I have a project started I will try and remember to take a photo of how the yarn stacks so nicely in the tote. I do show you it in the Youtube tutorial. If you want to watch, it’s at the first part of the video.

The center of the blanket is the fabulous Even Moss Stitch that we love to use. It’s a combo of half double crochet and slip stitch. It’s very beginner-friendly and one of those relaxing fast patterns to make. The border is mostly double crochets.

Just make sure you catch both strands of yarn as you go, and you will have a fabulous throw in the end! Have fun.
