Crochet Boho Diamond Lines Baby Blanket

crochet blanket with stripes and bobbles

I’ve had this idea of combining puffs and stripes to make diamonds in my head for a while and I’m glad I was finally able to figure out how to make it work!

crochet blanket with stripes and bobbles

I went through a lot of practice swatches for this blanket trying to figure out how to evenly space the diamonds and to see which stitches would work best, so was really glad when it finally worked out!

Notes

In order to avoid weaving in a ton of ends for this blanket I carried yarn on some of the rows so that I could easily change colors and pick up the new color when I needed it. To carry yarn, simply lay the color not in use across the top of your work and crochet over it as you go. The specific rows where I carried yarn are noted in the pattern below, but if you’d rather cut the yarn each time you switch colors, that works fine, too.

Pattern

Chain 96 with White. (To make your blanket larger, chain a multiple of 24.)

ROW 1: Starting in the 2nd chain from the hook, work a SC. *Work a DC in the next chain, then a SC in the next chain. Repeat from * to the end of the chain. The last stitch should be a SC. CH 1 and turn. (95 st)

ROWS 2 – 3: *Work a SC into the SC of the row below, then work a DC into the next DC of the row below. Repeat from to the end of the row. You should always work a SC into the top of a SC and a DC into the top of a DC. The last stitch should be a SC. At the end of row 3, pull through with Strawberry before you finish the stitch. CH 1 and turn.

ROW 4: Carry the White along the row and crochet over it as you go. With Strawberry, work HDSS in each of the first 11 stitches, then work 1 puff stitch in the next stitch. *Work HDSS in each of the next 23 stitches, then work a puff stitch in the next stitch. Repeat from * to the end of the row, until you end with HDSS in the last 11 stitches. On the last stitch, YO, insert your hook and pull up a loop, then pull directly through one loop. Pull through with White to finish stitch. CH 1 and turn.

ROW 5: Carry the Strawberry along the row and crochet over it as you go. With White, *work a SC into the next SC and a DC into the next DC. Repeat from * to the end of the row. CH 1 and turn. When you reach the end of the row, leave the Strawberry so that you can pick it back up when you return to that side of the blanket after the next two rows.

ROWS 6 – 7: With White, *work a SC into the next SC and a DC into the next DC. Repeat from * to the end of the row. At the end of row 7, bring Strawberry up the side of the blanket and pull through to finish the last stitch. CH 1 and turn.

ROW 8: Carry the White along the row and crochet over it as you go. With Strawberry, work HDSS in each of the first 8 stitches, then 1 puff stitch in the next stitch, then HDSS in the next 5 stitches, then 1 puff stitch in the next stitch. *Work HDSS in each of the next 17 stitches, then 1 puff stitch in the next stitch, then HDSS in the next 5 stitches, then 1 puff stitch in the next stitch.
