We had so much fun making Crochet Sherpa Scrunchies, that I had to try them out with Bernat Velvet Plus. We loved them! They work up even faster since the yarn/fur is thicker. We made so many and gave them to the girls friends as last minute Christmas gifts. I think I’m going to always have these on hand though for gifts for friends. They are so super soft and luxe.
Stitch
Half Double Crochet (HDC): Yarn over, insert your hook (in this instance you will insert your hook into the center of the hair tie), yarn over and pull a loop back through, yarn over and pull through all three loops on the hook.
Materials
Bernat Velvet Plus (100% polyester 300 g/10.5 oz, 71 m/78 yds)
1 skein any color makes 3 to 5 scrunchies
Size 10mm hook, scissors
Elastic Hair Tie
Pattern
Make a slip knot and insert your hook into the slip knot. Yarn over and insert your hook into the middle of the hair tie, yarn over and pull up a loop back through the middle of the hair tie. Yarn over again, pull through all three loops on the hook.
Tip: This first HDC will twist around the tie a bit, so you might need to pull through the first two loops and then adjust and pull through the final loop.
Work HDC around the hair tie, loosely and sliding them together tightly. Work as many HDC’s around the hair tie until you have gathered them in somewhat tight.
Join with a slip stitch to the first HDC of the round. Then cut a 6 inch tail about and tie off your stitch. With the starting end and finishing end, tie them into a tight knot. Clip the ends close to the knot.
Finished.
