If you look really close and use your imagination can you see how the little puffs possibly could look like tulips and the green rows the stems? 

This beautiful new book THE PAPER BIRD by Lisa Anchin was my inspiration for this new ripple pattern as she has the prettiest little tulips drawn on the cover. 

I’m so thrilled and honored when our author or illustrator friends reach out to us to gift us their latest book. It’s been so fun to design blankets to go along with their books. We have quite a little collection growing if you want to search under the Menu heading “Blanket Patterns > Blankets with Books.”

This is the second book that we have done for Lisa! Her first book was THE LITTLE GREEN GIRL and I made this garden blanket to go with it with yellow flowers. 

Both of her books are just delightful and full of gorgeous illustrations. She is so so talented. 

I can’t wait to read this book to all of my grandchildren, Jack and hopeful future ones to come! I ask each author to dedicate the book to my grandchildren. 

It is such a special gift for me and I really enjoy it so thank you thank you Lisa for sending me your book! 

Now let’s get to the pattern, which I really loved making! 

Materials

Bernat Bundle Up (small ball, 100% polyester, 140 g/4.9 oz, 244 m/267 yds)

2 skeins Cloud White, 1 skein each Brook, Posy, Red Wagon

Size I/5.5mm size hook, tapestry needle, scissors

Size

Finished size 26 in x 26 in (Car Seat Size Blanket)

Gauge: 2 in = 7 st and 6 rows of pattern

Stitches

Single Crochet (SC): Insert your hook, YO and pull up a loop, YO and pull through two loops on hook.

Half Double Crochet (HDC): YO, insert your hook, YO and pull up a loop, YO and pull through all three loops on hook

Double Crochet (DC): YO, insert your hook, YO and pull up a loop, YO and pull through two loops, YO and pull through remaining two loops.

Half Double Crochet Cluster (CL): YO and insert your hook, YO and pull up a loop. YO and insert your hook into the same stitch, YO and pull up a loop, YO and pull through all five loops on your hook.

Half Double Crochet Two Together (HDC2tog) or cluster across two stitches: YO and insert your hook, YO and pull up a loop. YO and insert your hook into the next chain, YO and pull up a loop. YO and pull through all five loops on your hook.

Pattern

Chain 111 in Cloud White. (Pattern repeat is any multiple of 36, plus 3.)

Row 1: In the 4th chain from the hook work 1 DC. *HDC in each of the next 6 chains. HDC2tog across the next two chains and then across the next 2 chains. HDC in each of the next 6 chains. Work 2 DC into the next chain and also 2 DC into the next. Repeat from * until there is 1 chain left. Work 2 DC into the final chain, CH 3 and turn. 

Row 2: Work 1 DC into the first DC of the row, (right at the base of the turning chain, not the next one), *HDC into each of the next 6 stitches (sts). HDC2tog across the next 2 sts, and then again across the next 2. HDC in each of the next 6 sts. Work 2 DC into the next st and also 2 DC into the next st. Repeat from * across the row. Work 2 DC into the top of the turning chain, CH 3 and turn. 

Rows 3 – 6: Repeat Row 2. (Pull through with Brook on the last step of the stitch of row 6)

Tip: I did not cut Cloud White, I carried it up the side of the work. I did cut the colors and wove them in after.

Row 7: Work Row 2 instructions with Brook. Pull through on the last step of the stitch with Posy.

Row 8: Work 1 DC in the first DC, *CL in each of the next 6 sts. HDC2tog across the next 2 sts, and then again across the next 2. CL in each of the next 6 sts. Work 2 DC into the next st and also 2 DC into the next st. Repeat from * across the row. Work 2 DC into the top of the turning chain CH 3 and turn. 

Repeat rows 2 through 8 for the remainder of the blanket to the size you desire and ending with 6 rows of white. I alternated the colors for row 8 between Posy and Red Wagon. 

Border

Before beginning the border, I wove in the ends, then worked 2 rounds of SC working evenly on the sides and 3 SC into each corner. Then joined with a slip stitch and tied off. 

I used almost all of the Cloud White for the blanket but had plenty extra of the colors. So if you are making this larger you probably only need to buy more of the White.
