Hello Crochet Friends! I have an adorable baby blanket pattern to share with you today. I’m calling it the Little Pearl Polka Dot Blanket. And, it can be made any size you’d like!
All you need is a starting chain that is a multiple of 12 and you can make this any width you would prefer. I love how the little dots are off set.
As I was designing this blanket, I was hoping to use stitches that would make the counting of placing the dots a bit easier. You will work rows of alternating double and single crochet alternating with just one row of all sc in between.
In breaking it up that way, I wanted to take the guesswork out of when you would be placing the dots. They always will be worked when you are on a row of alternating double and single.
The border is just a simple shell of 5 double crochets followed by a slip stitch to make them so cute and curvy.
I also want to recommend the yarn I used from Yarnspirations.com. This is a new product called Red Heart Cotton Breeze. It is a 60/40 cotton blend that worked up beautifully! It is a very light-weight blanket and I enjoyed crocheting with this yarn. I hope you will too!
Materials
3 balls Red Heart Cotton Breeze #3 DK Light (tap name of yarn to shop on Yarnspirations.com) in Linen or any color.
H 5mm hook, tapestry needle, scissors
Size
29 x 29 inches (can be made any size)
Stitches
Single Crochet (SC): Insert your hook, YO and pull up a loop, YO and pull through two loops on hook.
Double Crochet (DC): YO, insert your hook, YO and pull up a loop, YO and pull through two loops, YO and pull through remaining two loops
Double Crochet Three Together Dot (DC3TOG): YO, insert your hook, YO and pull up a loop, YO and pull through two loops, *YO, insert your hook in the same space, YO and pull up a loop, YO and pull through two loops. Repeat one more time from *. YO and pull through the remaining four loops on the hook.
Pattern
Chain 108 (or any multiple of 12 to make it any width that you’d like)
Row 1: Begin in the second chain from the hook with one SC. SC into each chain across the row. CH 1 and turn.
Row 2: SC into the first st, DC into the next st. Repeat from * across the next 3 sts. On 6th st work DC3tog in place of DC. **Continue alternating SC and DC across next 11 sts. On 12th st. work DC3tog. Repeat from ** across the rest of the row. CH 1 and turn.
Row 3: SC into each st across the row. CH 1 and turn.
Row 4: *SC into the first st, DC into the next st. Repeat from * across the entire row. CH 1 and turn.
Row 5: Repeat row 3 instructions.
Row 6: Repeat row 4 instructions.
Row 7: Repeat row 3 instructions.
Row 8: SC into the first st, DC into the next st. Repeat from * across the next 9 sts. On 12th st, DC3tog in place of DC. **Continue alternating SC and DC across next 11 sts. Every 12th st work DC3tog instead of DC. Repeat from ** across the row. CH 1 and turn.
For the rest of the blanket:
Repeat rows 3 through 7, then work row 2. Repeat rows 3 through 7, then work row 8. When you have enough length, end after you have worked row 2.
Tip: Every row begins and ends with SC.
Border:
After finishing row 2 instructions, ch 1 and turn and work SC into each stitch across the row, 3 SC into each corner, SC at the end of each row. Join with a SL ST to the first SC of the round. CH 1 and turn.
Round 2: Alternate SC and DC into each stitch around, and work 3 SC into the middle SC of each corner. Join with a SL ST to the first st of the round. CH 1 and turn.
Round 3: Work SC into each stitch and 3 SC into the middle SC of each corner. Join with a SL ST to the first st, do not turn.
Round 4: *Skip one st, work 5 DC into the next st. Skip one stitch, SL ST into the next st. Repeat from * around the entire blanket. Join with a SL ST to the final st, tie off, and weave in the ends.
