Crochet Ruffled Heart Hot Pad / Pot Holder

Every Valentine’s Day, I try to make a cute hot pad/pot holder and give it as a gift. This year, I used my favorite heart graph that I designed eight or nine years ago. I’ve used this heart for so many different projects.  Search through our Shapes category under Blanket Patterns under the menu to see more ideas for hearts.

This year, though, I asked my girls to put together a list of gifts that they would want for Valentine’s Day to share with you all. Little did they know, they were helping me out! I ordered from their curated list and I am giving them the items. Lol! They have great taste! I want to keep or order more of the items for me. The gifts will be linked at the end of this post. But here is a few of them:

The Geometry Tea Towels are so so nice. I actually have a few and they wash up well and dry dishes amazingly well. Plus they have the prettiest designs.

I didn’t know this, but these Nerds Gummy Clusters are the “it” candy right now and sells out really fast. Very yummy.

The other items I ordered, I am putting all in this basket and delivering to them on Valentine’s. I don’t have to worry that they won’t like it, because they picked all their favorite things! A win!

Keep scrolling for the pattern and graph for the hot pad. You could also make it a dishcloth if you carry the yarn through the rows or work with multiple bobbins, so you can drop one color and pick up the next, etc.

These work up fairly fast, and I loved the cute ruffle border.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Pattern

Chain 26

Following the graph beginning in the bottom right-hand corner, each square represents a single crochet stitch. Begin in the second chain from the hook and work 1 SC into each chain for a total of 25 stitches. CH 1 and turn. (Always CH 1 and turn at the end of each row.)

Even number rows are read left to right, odd number rows are read right to left. To change colors, pull through with the new color on the last step of the stitch, drop old color and do not cut. Keep all changes to the back of the work.

keep all the ends and carried yarn to one side of the work.

When you have completed the last row of the graph (Row 23) don’t turn.

Work 1 more SC into that stitch, then begin working down the side. *Work 2 SC into the end of a row, then skip a row and repeat from *.

Work 3 SC into the next corner then *work 2 SC, skip 1 stitch and repeat from *. (You are working the underside of the starting chain.)

Work 3 SC into the next corner and repeat working 2 SC per end of row or st, skip a row or st. Finish the round by working 1 SC into the starting stitch of the round. Join with a slip stitch and then tying off.

Make another panel with or without the heart.

To join both sides together, match up the corners, placing wrong sides together. Begin in any stitch by joining with a slip stich and chaining 2. *Work 2 DC into the next stitch, 3 DC into the next stitch. Repeat from * around, end with one or two DC into the starting join, (depends where you end in the alternating of DC’s), tie off and weave in the ends.

Now pair your darling hot pad with a few extra *Valentine’s gifts and you have a great gift for a friend!
