Hello friends, Hannah here, with a new version of my Crochet Square Dance Baby Blanket!
This blanket uses the exact same stitches as the Square Dance blanket, but instead of alternating every ten rows to make a basketweave look, I chose to keep the stitches the same throughout to make a textured vertical stripe look. I love how it turned out!
This blanket is also made with Caron Simply Me, which is a new acrylic/nylon/wool blend that works up so soft and squishy and comes in several beautiful colors! This yarn particularly lends itself to the split half double crochet stitch I used in this pattern because it can sometimes be tricky to get your hook into the center of the stitch, but the softness and stretchiness of this yarn made working that stitch so much easier.
I made this blanket in a baby size, but you can easily adjust this pattern to be a larger throw if you’d like. You can check out all the different shades of this yarn on Yarnspirations.com or Amazon! (As an Amazon Associate, we may earn from qualifying purchases.)
Here is a video tutorial for this blanket if you’d like to watch before you get started!

Pattern
Chain 101. (Pattern repeat is an even number multiplied by 10, plus 1.)
Row 1: Starting in the 2nd chain from the hook, work 1 HDSS in each chain. CH 1 and turn.
Rows 2 – 4: Work 1 HDSS in the back loop of each stitch across the row. CH 1 and turn.
Row 5: Work 1 HDSS in the back loop of each of the first 5 stitches. *Work 1 HDC in the back loop of each of the next 10 stitches. Then work 1 HDSS in the back loop of each of the next 10 stitches. Repeat from * across the row. End the row with 1 HDSS in the back loop of each of the last 5 stitches. CH 1 and turn.
Row 6: Work 1 HDSS in the back loop of each of the first 5 stitches. *Work 1 split HDC in each of the next 10 stitches. Then work 1 HDSS in the back loop of each of the next 10 stitches. Repeat from * across the row. End the row with 1 HDSS in the back loop of each of the last 5 stitches. CH 1 and turn.
Note: On this row it can be tricky to know where to insert your hook for the back loop HDSS after you’ve worked your 10 split HDC – be sure not to work in the back loop of the stitch that is actually the top of the split HDC stitch. You want to work in the next stitch, as pictured below:
Repeat row 6 until your blanket reaches appx. 34 inches or your desired length. Tie off, weave in ends and enjoy your blanket!
