Crochet Squared-Off Chevron Baby Blanket

POST UPDATE: This was made for baby James and I’m so so very happy to share a picture of him and his first smile!

He’s about six weeks old now and growing so big. Thank you all for making this pattern for your little one. I’ve seen quite a few in all sorts of different colors and they are all so beautiful.

Pattern is below, scroll to the end for the printable version. Thank you! xo Tiffany

blue chevron blanket on ladder

Thank you to the many of you on Instagram and in our Daisy Farm Crafters group for suggesting a name for this blanket.

I’ve settled on Squared-Off Chevron since I think it closely describes the technique of filling in the peaks and valleys. It is such a great look.

crochet blanket and hook

I’ve made a tweak to the original chevron pattern I made several years ago by eliminating the skip two for the valleys and substituting 2 sets of single crochet two together as a replacement. I’m hoping that it will help in keeping the counting a bit easier.

Thank you as always to our friends at Yarnspirations for sending us Bernat Softee Cotton. It’s so so nice for baby blankets and baby sweaters. It’s a cotton blend and the colors in the line are just gorgeous.

Fill the Valleys on the bottom of the blanket by pulling up your first loop in the starting chain corner. Follow the instructions for “Filling in the Valley’s” above with the exception that the SC2tog are worked across 3 sts instead of 4. The middle “legs” of the stitch share the same st on the first row where you are working on the underside of the starting chain.

The rest of the instructions for filling in the valley are the same as above. The only exception is on the first row.
