Crochet Milburn Bonnet Pattern

As baby Nora was visiting me last week, I received a wonderful crochet pattern book in the mail from Karen Petry of Babes in the Wool. I have admired her Instagram account and crochet patterns for years! She creates charming crochet items for babies and children.

I quickly looked through all the patterns in her new book, LOVELY LITTLE STITCHES, and chose a bonnet to make so I could get a darling photo of Nora before she had to go back home. The bonnet took me about 3 to 4 hours to make. (I mostly stayed up late one night to get it finished.)

There are 25 darling patterns to choose from. There is one blanket pattern and many patterns for rompers, dresses, bloomers, cardigans, and coats. There is a section for this bonnet as well as a sun hat, beret and a headband.

There are so many other items I want to make! I think the Orton Overalls might be my next make, they are so cute!

Karen also writes in a straightforward, easy to understand way. Every pattern is explained very well. She has included diagrams and extra photos that help illustrate each step. She really has gone the extra mile in making sure her patterns are achievable.

She says in the introduction of her book that she has “designed 25 fabulous patterns with beginners in mind. The majority are classified as easy with a couple of more advanced patterns thrown in. If you are a beginner, work on an easy pattern first and then move on to the more advanced patterns. Once you are familiar with the basic techniques, you will find that these design are achievable and fun to make.”

After looking through the book, I can say I totally agree. They are really designed well and with a beginner in mind. She also says, “baby and toddler attire doesn’t need to be boring. The crochet clothing we create for our little ones provides you with the opportunity to express your unique style and customize your work by experimenting with color.”

Well done Karen! I truly am going to enjoy this book for years to come and I am very glad to have it in my crochet library.

You will be able to see more photos of the projects that are included. Also, she has posted on her Instagram account photos of the finished projects if you want even more information.

I chose to use Bernat Baby Softee Cotton Yarn for Nora’s bonnet and I used a G 4.0mm size hook.

Thank you to baby Nora for being the cutest little crochet model around!
