Botanical Pot Holder / Hot Pad

crochet hot pads with leaves

I found a really pretty pattern on *Yarnspirations the other day called Botanical Crochet Dishcloth that I thought would be perfect as a fall hot pad. I think these are always nice hostess gifts to bring along with me to dinners or get together with friends or family so I’m always making a few in my spare time.

And absolutely you don’t have to combine two together for the hot pad, you could make them as dishcloths as the pattern intended.

Here’s what the inside of my hot pad looks like:

If you make it as a dishcloth, you’d carry the yarn through the rows to disguise it.

The above picture is from the Yarnspirations website showing what the botanical print looks like in different colors and as a dishcloth. Aren’t they just so pretty?

I used Lily Sugar N Cream Cotton in Ecru and Sage Green with an H 5.00 mm size crochet hook. Each little ball of yarn is 120 yards and I had enough to make 1 hot pad in each color. If you made the dish cloths, you’d be able to make 2 out of each ball of yarn.

Yarnspirations always offers their patterns as free printable downloads so this is a fun one to print off. It’s all single crochet and you follow the graph provided in the pattern to make the leaves. I was able to finish in one day working just a few hours.

I added a round of single crochet to attach the two sides together inserting my hook into both layers of the cloth and used the single crochet to attach them. At the end of the row, I slipped stitch to the beginning stitch and then tied off and wove in the end.
