Hello! I’m Nicolina and I am a beginner crocheter. All of my patterns are beginner friendly. This baby blanket uses the griddle stitch. If you haven’t used two types of stitches in blanket before, this is a great one to learn. I used Bernat Baby Sport yarn which is light weight so it makes a nice spring or summer time blanket.
Materials
Bernat Baby Sport (100% acrylic, 350 g/ 12.3 oz, 1148 m/1256 yds)
1 skein each Baby Gray, Dark Jade, Indigo
Size G/4.00mm hook, tapestry needle, scissors
Size
Finished size 33 in x 33 in
Stitches
Single Crochet (SC): Insert your hook, yarn over (YO) and pull up a loop, YO, pull through two loops.
Double Crochet (DC): YO, insert your hook, YO and pull up a loop, YO, pull through two loops, YO, pull through last two loops.
Pattern
Chain 125 with Indigo. (To make a larger blanket, chain any odd number to your desired width.)
Row 1: In the second chain from hook, work a single crochet. In the next stitch, work a double crochet. Alternate across the whole row SC and DC. The last stitch you make should be a DC. Chain one and turn.
Row 2: Single crochet into the DC you just made from the previous row. Then, double crochet into the SC. Alternate again across the whole row. Always DC into SC. Always SC into DC.
Repeat row 2 for the remainder of the blanket.
Here’s how I did my color changes: 6 rows Indigo, *10 rows Baby Grey, 1 row of Dark Jade, 3 rows of Baby Grey, 6 rows of Indigo, 3 rows of Baby Grey, 1 row of Dark Jade. Repeat from * four times, then end the blanket with 10 rows Baby Grey and 6 rows Indigo.
To change color, when you reach the end of the row, insert your hook as normal for the last DC, but instead of pulling through with the same color, pull through with the new color. Then chain one and proceed as normal.
Border
Weave in all ends.
Round 1: With Baby Grey, pull up a loop in any corner and chain one. Work one round of single crochet around the blanket, working 3 SCs into each corner. When you reach the corner you started with it, slip stitch into the starting stitch, chain 1 and turn.
Rounds 2 – 4: Work one round of DC, working 3 DCs into each corner. When you reach the corner you started with it, slip stitch into the starting stitch, chain 2 and turn.
When you finish the last round, slip stitch into the starting corner and tie off.
