Crochet Beginner Polka Dot Blanket

My daughter Annie really wants to learn how to make a blanket with polka dots, so I used only two stitches for this to make it easy that any beginner can do it!

You will need to know how to single crochet and double crochet 4 together to make the bobble. I will show you how in a video and write out how to do that in the pattern.

I’m using Bernat Blanket Yarn for this so it’s big and puffy! I like to make blankets to go along with picture books and the book that inspired this blanket is Mem Fox’s newest release called Roly Poly.

The dots on the blanket reminded me of puffy little snowballs! I happen to have a signed copy of Roly Poly that I will treasure forever. I met Mem Fox at a children’s book conference over the summer.

This book is perfect for the little brother or sister who has been an only child and is getting a sibling. Roly Poly is just so happy until one day he wakes up and there is a baby brother in his bed! I really love this book and it’s so fun to read.

I just thought the little dots looked so much like snowballs! Cute!

Work 3 rows of single crochet in between each bobble row and alternate starting on the 10th stitch and 5th stitch on the bobble rows to the end of the blanket.

Border

After weaving in all ends, pull up a loop in any corner and chain 1. SC into each stitch around the blanket, working 1 SC per the end of each row and also working 3 SC into each corner space. Join with a slip stitch at the end of the round, chain 1 and turn. Work as many rounds as you wish, I did 5 rounds.

Here is a video tutorial of just the blanket portion. It does not show the border.

I hope you enjoy making this polka dot blanket! It’s such a classic look. Come and show us in our Facebook group, Daisy Farm Crafters! Or tag us on Instagram! We love to share what you are making and would love to see this in different colors.

Happy Crocheting!
